EMC Events - At the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, take time to remember those who gave their lives for the freedoms enjoyed today.

Royal Canadian Legion Branch 174 has once again organized the Remembrance Day parade and Cenotaph ceremony in Arnprior.

The parade will form up at the Legion on Daniel Street at 10 a.m. The parade of veterans, members of the Cadet Corps, Girl Guides, Scouts and a regiment from CFB Petawawa will travel from Daniel Street to the Cenotaph on John Street and then back to the Legion. Road closures will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and streets closed to vehicular traffic will include any travel north on Daniel to Elgin Street, west on Elgin Street to John Street and north on John Street until reaching the Cenotaph.

Taking the salute as the parade makes its way past the reviewing stand will be Navy veteran Bill Monroe.

Once at the Cenotaph, wreaths will be laid by a number of dignitaries as well as other groups and individuals.

This year's Silver Cross Mother, who will place a wreath on behalf of all mothers who have lost sons and daughters in war, will be Edith Thompson.

As always, the ceremony will include participation from school children, including local Scouts and Girl Guides as well local politicians.

Following the ceremony, there will be a luncheon back at the Legion to mark Remembrance Day.

Also, don't forget to buy your raffle ticket for the beautiful 'Poppy Quilt' produced by the ladies of Sew Inspired. Tickets are $2 each for three for $5 and are available at the Veterans' Lounge in the Legion. The draw for this unique keepsake will take place following the Remembrance Service

Area Remembrance Day ceremonies to consider if you cannot make it to the Arnprior are the ones in Pakenham and Almonte. Pakenham's will be held Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Cenotaph located on the grounds of Pakenham Public School on County Road 29 in the village. In Almonte, the ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Cenotaph downtown.
