Joint Compliance Audit Committee fills vacancies
Posted Jul 29, 2010 By Theresa FritzEMC News - Candidates running in the Oct. 25 municipal election will have any campaign financing irregularities monitored by a special committee.
The Joint Compliance Audit Committee has been created as per the provisions of the Municipal Elections Act. The act was amended in 1996, to make the establishment of a committee a requirement to deal with any potential contraventions in pre-determined campaign spending.
The Town of Arnprior, Township of McNab/Braeside and the Township of Greater Madawaska have partnered to form the joint committee.
During the July 12 council meeting, clerk Jacquie Farrow-Lawrence noted a large ad, looking for individuals to sit on the compliance committee, was placed in local newspapers as well as on the three municipalities' website. However, there was no response.
She indicated that having the committee in place by Oct. 1 is a must. As a result, municipal staff approached some local individuals about joining as members and they agreed.
The committee will include Carol Rousselle - former town clerk for the Town of Arnprior, Adlene Style - former councillor for the Township of McNab/Braeside and Brian Hunt CMA (retired) and member of the finance committee for Greater Madawaska. The alternate member of the committee will be Howard Ransom, bookkeeper for the Arnprior Public Library.
