Free dental hygiene services available Feb. 11
Posted Jan 19, 2012 By Sherry HaaimaEMC News- Registered dental hygienist Patty McComb is joining her peers across Canada on Saturday, Feb. 11 in offering the Gift From the Heart program, which provides free dental hygiene services to clients who wouldn't otherwise have access to them.
There are limited appointments available so McComb encourages clients to call as early as possible to be considered.
The program, open to adults and children, is a great option for low-income individuals and those without insurance, says McComb.
She runs Rural Roots, a mobile dental hygiene service.
Dental care is an important part of overall health, says McComb.
"Especially with children you want to start them off on a good road to proper dental health by educationg them on how to brush their teeth, care for their teeth and why that's so mimportant," she said.
Adults too, can benefit from brushing up on their dental hygiene skills.
"There's always something new to learn. It's not just about having white teeth, its about removing bacteria daily and overall oral health," says McComb.
The clinic will be run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Carman Burgess Denture Clinic at 43 Madawaska Blvd. in Arnprior.
Clients will have to be pre-screened and should call 613-323-6487 and leave a message or visit the website at www.ruralrootsdhs.com to be considered.
Rural Roots Dental Hygiene Services provides mobile dental hygiene services to the sick, homebound or anyone wishing to receive dental care at home.
McComb says the service is a great fit for long term care facilitites and seniors homes.
"If there's someone out there who knows of someone who needs these services, don't hesitate to give me a call," she says.
